New Highlights

Commercial land needed the commissioners of Lee County, in their wisdom, do not even follow their own rules. In the Lee Plan (The Comprehensive Land Use Plan in Lee County) it states in Policy 1.8.1, "Lee County will take steps to provide additional commercial land in Lehigh Acres to offset the loss," but in the past nine to 12 months commissioners have voted to change 300 plus acres of prime commercially zoned land to single family residential and or multi-family residential units


The results of a recent survey by the Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce show that a majority of those who responded feel that a local, city government would better address the issues facing Lehigh than the county has done. "We just feel that we're out here and we're not getting the attention we deserve," Chamber Executive Director Oliver B. Conover said.

How to use results is the next decision By Justin St. Clair jstclair@lehighnewsstar.com A majority of chamber of commerce members who participated in a recent survey support cityhood in Lehigh Acres. According to results released recently by the chamber, 68 of the 109 Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce members stand in favor of incorporation, while 20 are opposed and 21 have no opinion.

Chamber outliens options for growth of needed services Last month, the chamber's speaker for our General Membership Luncheon was from the Florida Government Utilities Authority, the present owner of the water and sewer systems in Lehigh Acres. This is an entity created by the Florida legislature to purchase privately owned utilities and hold them for an eventual re-purchase by a county or city.
